Final Read Proofreading was founded by Connie Harris.

Connie holds a first-class degree in Neuroscience from the University of Manchester, which was her first introduction to the world of academic writing. After university, she worked in academic publishing within the life sciences as an editorial officer, where she proofread and edited papers for publication in multiple academic journals. As an editorial officer, she oversaw the production of the journals, from assessing submissions for English language and adherence to journal guidelines at first submission; through the peer-review and editorial processes; to the final proofread and compilation into the issue. Within this role, Connie undertook courses in the basics of proofreading and the ethics of proofreading.

In her freelance work as a proofreader and copy-editor, Connie has worked on a range of projects. She started her freelance work working on personal statements, CVs and university applications for non-native speakers applying to English speaking universities and business. She has since broadened her repertoire, working on a range of student essays in different topics and job applications, and providing proofreading and editing services for a range of business needs.

Having grown up mostly in the UK but also partly in the US, Connie can aptly convert between US and UK English and can ensure consistency depending on the style of English used.

Connie is also a trained teacher, having studied for a PGCE in secondary science education from King’s College London.

When there is a high volume of submissions, or where the editing work is outside of the experience of the editor, other editors may be hired on a freelance basis. This will be communicated with the client and the editor hired will be an expert in the required area.
